I started the siege and this guy showed up and is just sitting here. At this rate he’s gonna starve us out. I’ve been waiting 2 weeks in game since they hit 0 food. 182. 28. I've been playing as a mercenary, not a full vassal, of several kingdoms, but if I ever try to leave a kingdom, I take a -40 relations penalty with….
There are many currencies in the world of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord and Influence is one of the most important ones. Though players wouldn’t think at the start that it is a currency, Influence is used by you and the AI to fight to decide what happens in a faction. Doesn't matter how good you are when the AI factions all declare war on you and leave each other alone. I don't mind being in a multi front war, but when they are all leaving each other alone and it's just your faction versus the world. ♥♥♥♥ war system is a ♥♥♥♥ war system.
Originally posted by Stealth: I think at clan tier 3 you can talk to the leader of a faction and request to be his vassal (at clan tier 2 you can only request to be a merc). I started my own kingdom though, I ain't working for nobody :) Actually clan tier 1= merc, Clan tier 2= vassal. #3.
Rebel cities are open season for any faction to fight, but usually only the faction that the city rebelled against will fight them. If the city is taken the rebel lords will stop spawning and eventually be wiped out. If you want to make sure rebelling does not happen, pass all the kingdom policies that increase loyalty.
Even an mercenary working for a kingdom cannot -- despite the fact that adding parties led by your own companions doesn't cost influence. Being king of your own lets you form an army, but in order for you to have formed a kingdom you need a fief (e.g. one of Imperial culture if you're going along the Imperial quest line), so chicken/egg problem.
mnfhu. It is absolutely same thing. Being vassal and having 6 companions with some Steward skill I can have 800 men army for 0 influence as long as I want. Nothing can stand against me at this point. But I don't mind, if there is some other way to train leadership skill at reasonable rate.

Early game the mercenary contract alone can pay for your whole army (50-75 troops.), again if not using a stack of t5 troops just from killing bandits. Get's much higher if you beat lords down. Once you can win verses lords the best part about the contract is that it lets you battle with their enemies. 10-15k from loot + ransoms on average

Defensive sieges were one of the best parts about Warband but these are very hard to come across in Bannerlord. Currently (as of 1.3 and 1.4), the AI only attacks a castle when they have an extreme advantage, which means that if you manage to get into the castle before the AI begins it's siege, you're going to lose the battle.
